The Art of the Curve: Softening Modern Architecture

How intentional geometry transformed a celebrity chef's residence in Hougang.

In a world of hard edges and right angles, there is something deeply restorative about a curve. For The Soft Boundary, our recent project in Hougang, the use of soft geometry was more than a stylistic choice—it was a strategy for spatial flow.

The home was designed for a culinary professional who values both precision and hospitality. To reflect this, we introduced a bespoke feature wall with rounded edges to segregate the living and dining zones. This allows the spaces to remain connected while providing a gentle, visual "nudge" as you move through the home.

The masterpiece of the residence, however, is the master suite’s arch wall. By replacing a standard partition with a soft architectural arch, we created a functional boundary for the wardrobe that doesn't block light or air. It proves that luxury isn't about adding more—it’s about considering the transition.

Design Tip: When introducing curves, less is more. One or two "hero" architectural curves (like an archway or a feature wall) are far more powerful than a room full of rounded furniture.
